Technology

Predictive Cruise improves fuel economy by up to 3%. The technology integrates the powertrain, cruise control and satellite mapping, enabling the truck to respond automatically to the road ahead, while neutral coasting uses the truck’s momentum to save fuel.

Powered by four heavy-duty AGM batteries, Peterbilt’s SmartAir no-idle climate control system can provide high-power capacity to keep the sleeper cool for up to 10 hours. All while using 70% less fuel than diesel-based auxiliary power units and requiring no scheduled maintenance.

An intelligent navigation and communications center, SmartNavTM combines a full-color touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and productivity apps. The system features GPS navigation that calculates truck-friendly routes, real-time vehicle data, WiFi capability and up to four camera views.

Efficiency & Uptime

To create the EPIQ Aero Package, Peterbilt optimized everything from low rolling resistance tires, to the fairings and closeouts. Through computational fluid dynamics and thousands of miles of on-road validation, the 579 has achieved a 4% improvement in aerodynamics.

The PACCAR MX-13 engine features Compacted Graphite Iron in the block and cylinder head, enabling a higher power-to-weight ratio. With high pressure fuel injection and high-tech calibration, the engine saves up to 4% in fuel economy, as well as 150 pounds in weight.

The lightest axle in its class, the PACCAR axle saves up to 150 pounds of weight. Combined with the advanced design that boosts fuel economy, the PACCAR axle delivers fuel efficiency savings of up to 1%.
